A speeding stolen vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into another car, causing one of the cars to roll over Saturday afternoon in Waukegan, an alderman said.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 3:50 p.m. to the 1600 block of North Jackson Street for a crash with injuries.

Waukegan 6th Ward Alderman Keith Turner said the crash involved two cars that were totaled.

A stolen vehicle was speeding traveling westbound on Keith Avenue when it ran the stop sign, Turner said.

The stolen vehicle crashed into a second vehicle, which was traveling southbound on Jackson Street, and spun it into the northbound lane.

The first vehicle jumped the curb, crossed into a yard and hit a tree before sliding into another yard.

Turner said the car nearly struck a father and his young son.

Both drivers were young women, Turner said, adding that no one was seriously injured.

Multiple crashes have occurred at the same intersection in recent years, one of which was fatal, Turner said.

It was not immediately known whether any criminal charges have been filed.
