Police are searching for a gunman who randomly fired over a dozen shots in a quiet residential area in Long Grove Tuesday evening, officials said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Checker Road and Countryside Lane in Long Grove for a report of shots fired.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies arrived to find several 9mm shell casings near the intersection.

A preliminary investigation indicates a suspect vehicle stopped near the intersection.

One or more subjects exited the car and a firearm was recklessly fired into the air, Covelli said.

Over a dozen shell casings were recovered in total. No injuries were reported.

The shell casings are being sent to the crime lab for comparison with any other shell casings collected at other shootings.

Investigators also recovered video surveillance which is aiding them in furthering their investigation, Covelli said.
