Trains have resumed moving again with delays after a car, which was reportedly unoccupied, was struck by a Metra train in Lake Forest Friday afternoon.

The Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 2:25 p.m. Friday to Western Avenue and Ryan Place in Lake Forest for a report of a crash involving a train and car.

Firefighters arrived to find a white Ford SUV that had been struck by a Metra train at the crossing.

The car was reportedly unoccupied when it was struck by train 346, which was an inbound train on the Union Pacific North line.

Train 346 was scheduled to arrive at Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago at 3:26 p.m., Metra said.

No injuries were reported, according to a Metra spokesperson.

Train traffic, both inbound and outbound, was temporarily halted following the collision.

The SUV has since been towed from the scene and the railroad crossing has been reopened.

It was unknown how the crash was caused, the Metra spokesperson said.

Trains are moving and were approximately 60 minutes behind schedule as of 4:50 p.m.
