A Round Lake man is being held on a $2 million bond after prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a child family member on numerous occasions in Round Lake.
Anthony Gonzales, 33, of Round Lake, was charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault of a child.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Francis DeRosa said someone called 911 on May 2 to report that Gonzales was engaging in sex acts with a child.
The victim is in her early teenage years and Gonzales is a family member of the child.
The victim was taken to the hospital for an exam and officers arrested Gonzales, DeRosa said during a bond hearing.
Gonzales told investigators he would get mad that the victim would talk to boys.
DeRosa said that Gonzales also told investigators that he and the child were in a “close relationship.”
He would routinely text the child asking her if she wanted to have sex by using a code word in the messages, DeRosa said.
Gonzales said he began sexually assaulting the child in April and it happened at least 10 times, DeRosa said.
The victim and a witness were interviewed at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center.
Gonzales has anger issues and had attacked her previously, resulting in the police being called, the victim told investigators.
The victim also said that Gonzales began getting inappropriate with her at the end of last year.
One of the instances involved the victim waking up to Gonzales sexually assaulting her, DeRosa said.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Gonzales held on a $2 million bond.
Gonzales remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $200,000 cash in order to be released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 30.
