Two men charged in an attempted residential burglary in Lakewood and car break-ins in Crystal Lake have now been charged in multiple additional car burglaries in the county.
Victor A. Diaz, 21, of Crystal Lake, was initially charged in late March with attempted residential burglary, criminal trespass to land, burglary, theft, two counts of possession of burglary tools and attempted burglary.
Lucazie S. Sacco, 18, of Algonquin, was initially charged in late March with attempted residential burglary, attempted burglary, burglary, theft, criminal trespass to land and two counts of possession of burglary tools.
In late April, Diaz was charged in five separate new cases with three counts of burglary, attempted burglary, two counts of possession of burglary tools, three counts of criminal damage to property, theft and criminal trespass to vehicle.
Sacco was also charged in three separate new cases with two counts of burglary, attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and two counts of criminal damage to property.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Diaz and Sacco committed an attempted burglary on March 31 in the 7000 block of Longmoor Drive in Lakewood.
The two took a “substantial step” toward committing burglary by attempting to gain entry to a residence, the complaint said.
Diaz and Socco remained on the property without permission from the owner, the complaint said.
Diaz and Socco were found in possession of a screwdriver, suitable for breaking into a building, the complaint added.
A separate criminal complaint said Diaz burglarized a 1991 Pontiac Hatchback around 1:37 a.m. on March 31 in Crystal Lake and committed theft of the vehicle, which is worth over $10,000.
The Pontiac had its vehicle ignition “manipulated” by the screwdriver, the complaint said.
A separate complaint said Diaz and Socco committed attempted burglary by entering a 2004 Dodge Caravan in the 0-100 block of Pauline Avenue in unincorporated Crystal Lake around 5:36 a.m. on March 31.
The newest charges against the two allege they burglarized a 2017 Hyundai Elantra in the 100 block of Rosebud Avenue in unincorporated Crystal Lake sometime on March 30 or March 31
Over $500 in damage was caused to the victim’s car.
A criminal complaint said Diaz and Socco burglarized a black Toyota Corolla in the 500 block of Charlotte Avenue in unincorporated Crystal Lake around 7 a.m. on March 31.
Over $500 in damage was caused to the victim’s car in the process.
Diaz and Socco attempted to burglarize a 2017 Toyota around 2:33 a.m. on March 31 in Crystal Lake, according to a separate complaint.
A complaint said Diaz additionally burglarized a 2015 Kia Forte in the 1400 block of Briarwood Circle in Crystal Lake and damaged the ignition and steering column around 2:35 a.m. on March 31.
Diaz is also accused of stealing an unattended vehicle outside a 7-Eleven store at 60 West Terra Cotta Avenue in Crystal Lake around 10:55 p.m. on August 19.
Diaz and Sacco were both arrested by police in late March and transported to the McHenry County Jail.
Diaz was initially ordered held on a $70,000 bond and Sacco was ordered held on a $65,000 bond.
Sacco was released early last month after posting 10% of his bond but is wanted again following his new charges.
Diaz remains held in the jail on a new bond of $180,000.
