Alexis Ochoa, 20, of Waukegan.

A Waukegan man has been charged after prosecutors say he shoved a police officer on top of a victim who was unresponsive following a fight at a banquet hall in Waukegan.

Alexis Ochoa, 20, of Waukegan, was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:30 a.m. on May 7 to a large fight call at Salon Latino Banquet Hall, 1015 Belvidere Road in Waukegan.

It was reported that one person was unconscious after being struck in the face.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Dyson said officers arrived to find an unresponsive victim on the scene.

An officer was tending to the victim when Ochoa pushed the officer from behind, Dyson said.

The officer fell on top of the unresponsive person.

Officers attempted to arrest Ochoa and he began resisting arrest, Dyson said.

Ochoa also had an active warrant at the time for a failure to appear in court in a driving under the influence case out of Gurnee.

Dyson said Ochoa almost never shows up to court and asked the court to impose a $100,000 bond.

Lake County Judge Janelle Christensen ordered Ochoa held on a $100,000 bond.

Ochoa remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $10,000 cash in order to be released.

A motion of defense hearing is scheduled for May 15 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 7.
