The police chief said two brothers got into a fight, leading to a shooting that left one of them dead and a second critically wounded at a popular restaurant in Fox Lake Tuesday.
The Fox Lake Police Department and Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 1 p.m. Tuesday to Dockers, 33 West Grand Avenue in Fox Lake, for a report of a person shot.
Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee said a preliminary investigation showed two brothers were in a dispute in the kitchen area of the restaurant.
Shots were fired and one of the men came outside and fired more shots, Lee said.
One of the men was found deceased outside of the restaurant.
The second man was transported by paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition, Lee said.
Many of the patrons at the restaurant reported not knowing what was going on at the time of the incident.
A group of patrons told officers they were not being served after being seated so they got up and left.
Some patrons thought they heard construction noise and others described it as gunshots, Lee said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office and Lake County Major Crime Task Force responded to the scene.
Surrounding police departments also responded to assist with the incident.
Several schools in the area went on lockdown due to the shooting.
Lee said that there is no threat to the community.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fox Lake Police Department, Lake County Major Crime Task Force and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
