Shawn M. Davy, 39, of Fox River Grove.

A Fox River Grove man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after authorities say he solicited a child on a dating application and received sexually explicit images.

Shawn M. Davy, 39, of Fox River Grove, was initially charged in February 2020 with three counts of solicitation of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography.

A grand jury later indicted him on over 40 charges, including child pornography and grooming, ranging from Class X to Class 4 felonies.

The Genoa Police Department was notified on February 16, 2020, that a child was inappropriately contacted by an unidentified adult male, prosecutors said.

The Genoa Police Department contacted the Illinois Attorney General’s Office for assistance.

Prosecutors said an investigation of the child’s cell phone data determined that Davy was the suspect in question.

Davy was residing in unincorporated Fox River Grove so the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation.

The sheriff’s office said that Davy messaged a juvenile victim on a dating application and began soliciting explicit images from the victim.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Attorney General’s Office and Genoa Police Department executed a search warrant at Davy’s residence.

Prosecutors said a search warrant on multiple electronic devices belonging to Davy resulted in multiple pornographic images of children being found.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Davy knowingly solicited images of a child’s genitals who he knew or reasonably should have known was under the age of 18.

He was ordered held in the McHenry County Jail on a $100,000 bond and later released in November 2020 after posting 10% of a $50,000 bond.

Court records show Davy recently pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, a Class 1 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea deal on Monday and sentenced Davy to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
