An Oregon man was taken into custody Thursday on a warrant for allegedly sending a sexual photo of a McHenry County woman to the woman’s mother without consent.
Daniel H. Briggs, 27, of Bend, Oregon, was charged with one count of non-consensual dissemination of a sexual image, a Class 4 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Briggs intentionally sent a private sexual image of a 27-year-old woman on December 30.
The image was sent via text message to the woman’s mother, despite the victim not consenting to it, the complaint said.
The incident was reported to the McHenry Police Department, which investigated the case.
Officers obtained a warrant for Briggs in mid-April charging him with the felony.
Briggs appeared virtually on Zoom for a court hearing on May 4, court records show.
Briggs’ attorney asked the court to quash the warrant but McHenry County Judge James Cowlin denied the request.
Cowlin ordered Briggs to appear in court in person.
Briggs appeared in court in person on Thursday and Cowlin remanded Briggs to the McHenry County Jail on the warrant.
Cowlin ordered Briggs to have no contact with the victim as part of his conditions.
Briggs was released from the jail Thursday morning after posting bond, jail records show. Bond information was not immediately available.
A status of trial date hearing is scheduled for June 29.
