A 56-year-old man operating a motorcycle died after was he involved in a collision with an SUV near the Walmart in Round Lake Beach Sunday morning.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 7:57 a.m. Sunday to Route 83 and Engle Drive in Round Lake Beach for a report of a crash with injuries.
Officers arrived to find a crash involving a 2001 Jeep and a motorcycle, according to Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Ryan Rodriguez.
The Jeep, driven by a 30-year-old man, was traveling southbound on Route 83.
The motorcycle, driven by a 56-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Route 83, Rodriguez said.
The Jeep began turning left onto eastbound Engle Drive when it collided with the motorcycle.
Paramedics pronounced the 56-year-old man deceased on the scene, Rodriguez said. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Route 83 was shut down between Monaville Road to north of Engle Drive.
It remains closed as of 11:20 a.m. Sunday.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy on the 56-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The crash remains under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and MCAT.
