The coroner has identified a 56-year-old man who died after was he involved in a collision with an SUV while riding his motorcycle in Round Lake Beach Sunday morning.
An autopsy performed Monday on David Paul, 56, of Skokie, showed he died as a result of blunt force injuries, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 7:57 a.m. Sunday to Route 83 and Engle Drive in Round Lake Beach for a report of a crash with injuries.
Officers arrived to find a crash involving a 2001 Jeep and a motorcycle, according to Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Ryan Rodriguez.
The Jeep, driven by a 30-year-old man, was traveling southbound on Route 83.
The motorcycle, driven by Paul, was traveling northbound on Route 83, Rodriguez said.
The Jeep began turning left onto eastbound Engle Drive when it collided with the motorcycle.
Paramedics pronounced Paul deceased on the scene, Rodriguez said. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Route 83 was shut down between Monaville Road to north of Engle Drive for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and MCAT.
