The coroner has identified a 24-year-old man who died after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree, leaving his passenger injured, in Lake Zurich Sunday morning.
An autopsy performed Monday on Kevin Rediger, 24, of Lake Zurich, showed he died from blunt force trauma as a result of a crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Lake Zurich Police Department and Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 2:07 a.m. Sunday to Pheasant Ridge Drive and Red Bridge Road.
Lake Zurich Police Department Sgt. Colin Gaffney said officers received a report of a serious single-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2021 BMW was traveling eastbound on Pheasant Ridge Drive through a neighborhood.
The driver of the BMW, Rediger, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, Gaffney said.
Rediger was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
The passenger’s injuries were not life-threatening, Gaffney said.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake Zurich Police Department Traffic Safety Division and MCAT.
