Police say a juvenile was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while the child was riding their bicycle in a neighborhood in Round Lake Park.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Antioch Fire Department and Round Lake Park Police Department responded around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday to the 300 block of Brierhill Drive in Round Lake Park.
The Round Lake Park Police Department said they received a report of a crash involving a bicycle and vehicle.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find the victim down on the roadway near Brierhill Drive and Locust Drive.
An initial investigation revealed the juvenile on the bicycle failed to stop at the stop sign.
The child crossed the intersection without slowing down, police said.
The involved vehicle had the right of way but had “very limited time to stop.”
The juvenile was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center.
The extent of their injuries was not released but the child’s condition has been stabilized.
“This should be a reminder to all parents to have a talk with their kids,” the police department said.
“They must follow rules of the road and cross intersections safely, even if on a bicycle. We want everyone to have a safe summer,” the department added.
