Bosco M. Musungu, 47, of Waukegan.

A judge called a man a “menace” and ordered him held on a $1 million bond after the man was charged with driving drunk for his fourth time and causing multiple crashes in Lincolnshire.

Bosco M. Musungu, 47, of Waukegan, who also goes by Bosco Matata, was charged with driving while license revoked or suspended four times or more, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, transportation of alcohol by a driver, two counts of failure to reduce speed and disregarding a traffic control light.

The Lincolnshire Police Department received a call for a vehicle crash on May 16.

Witnesses said Musungu caused a rear-end crash at a stop light.

He backed up and went around one of the involved vehicles before driving over the median into oncoming traffic, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler.

Musungu fled southbound and was followed by a witness to Half Day Road and Schelter Road in Lincolnshire where he crashed into a third vehicle.

Musungu was outside of his car when officers arrived and they noticed he smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages and had glassy eyes, Smoler said.

He underwent field sobriety tests, which he failed, Smoler said.

He reportedly admitted to drinking and driving, saying that he had alcoholic beverages prior to the crash.

Officers found a box of beer in the car and an open bottle.

Smoler said Musungu has three prior driving under the influence cases and his license is currently revoked for DUI.

This is the fifth time Musungu has been charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license.

Musungu is currently on conditional discharge for one of the prior cases.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Musungu held on a $1 million bond, calling the man a menace.

Musungu remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $100,000 cash in order to be released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.
