Fire officials say a fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported after a barn was heavily damaged in a fire near Marengo Friday evening.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded around 7:23 p.m. Friday to the 22100 block of West Railroad Street in unincorporated Marengo for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes and found heavy smoke and flames showing from a pole barn.
The barn is roughly 40 by 50 feet in size, according to Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.
Firefighters quickly pulled two hose lines and began defensive operations.
The fire was considered under control within 30 minutes.
Vucha said a quick loss stop by firefighters prevented the entire structure from being destroyed.
Firefighters later entered the structure and finished extinguishing residual hotspots and conducted overhaul.
Due to the rural area, water supply operations were established to transport water to the scene, Vucha said.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to any firefighters.
The barn was used for storage and contained no animals, Vucha said.
Vucha said the fire is believed to have begun on the outside of the structure.
The cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious, remains under investigation by the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts.
