A 6-year-old girl was seriously injured after being run over by a bicycle while playing at a party at a house near Wonder Lake Monday afternoon.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 1:53 p.m. Monday to the 8200 block of Howe Road in unincorporated Wonder Lake for a traumatic injury call.

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Chief Mike Weber told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a family party was going on at a residence.

Children were playing on bicycles when a 6-year-old girl walked in front of one of the bicycles, Weber said.

The child was struck by the bicycle and seriously injured.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was initially requested to land nearby at Galt Airport, Weber said.

The helicopter was later canceled and a Wonder Lake ambulance transported the girl to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

The child who was riding the bicycle was not injured, Weber said.

Weber said the girl’s injuries were serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
