Three people were transported to the hospital after they were wounded in a shooting near a gas station in Waukegan early Monday morning.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 1:33 a.m. Monday to the area of the BP gas station at Jackson Street and Grand Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Officers initially found one gunshot victim near Jackson Street and Porter Street.

The Waukegan Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers located two additional gunshot victims around 1:54 a.m. in the same area, according to fire department radio traffic.

Paramedics responded again and transported both victims to the hospital for treatment.

Multiple police departments responded to assist the Waukegan Police Department with the incident.

A police report said the three shooting victims suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Shell casings were recovered along with a handgun. Video surveillance was also obtained.

Numerous subjects were detained but were released from custody pending further investigation, the report said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department, which was not immediately available to provide further details on the case.
