A man was flown to the hospital after he was seriously injured during a cooking accident on Memorial Day near Spring Grove, fire officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 3:17 p.m. Monday to the 38600 block of North Lake Shore Drive in unincorporated Spring Grove for a burn victim.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District Lt. Jake Geist told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the victim had been using a smoker grill.
Geist said the smoker grill possibly exploded, but he did not know exactly what happened.
The victim, a middle-aged man, suffered burns in the incident.
The injuries fit the criteria for aeromedical transport to a burn center, Geist said.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested and landed at the former Whiskey Waters bar on State Park Road north of Grass Lake Road.
The ambulance transported the victim to the landing zone and transferred the patient to the helicopter.
Geist said the helicopter flew the man to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
The victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
No one else was injured in the accident.
