A man was seriously injured after he clung onto a traveling vehicle and fell off onto the pavement near an apartment complex in Waukegan Tuesday evening.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7:55 p.m. Tuesday to the 4100 block of Continental Drive in Waukegan for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

A 911 caller reported the victim, a male in his 20s, was not breathing.

Paramedics arrived and requested a LifeNet medical helicopter to respond due to the victim’s injuries.

The helicopter’s response was delayed due to refueling and crew shift change so paramedics ground transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Officers learned the incident was the result of a domestic dispute between the victim and a woman, according to a police report.

The victim jumped onto the running board of the woman’s vehicle.

The woman drove the vehicle around a corner at Hickory Hills Drive west of Delany Road, at which point the victim fell off, the report said.

The extent of the man’s injuries was not known but his injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The incident is under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
