A driver was transported to the hospital by a medical helicopter with serious injuries after a van drove off the roadway into a tree in Lakemoor Saturday morning, police said.
The Lakemoor Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 10:51 a.m. Saturday to the area of Bay Road and Weingart Road in Lakemoor for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Lakemoor Police Department Officer Kevin Lyons said an investigation showed a silver Dodge work van was traveling westbound on Bay Road approaching Weingart Road.
The Dodge, for unknown reason, veered left and crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic.
The Dodge then went into a culvert and struck a tree off the roadway, Lyons said.
Passing motorists stopped to render aid and comfort to the driver.
Lyons said the driver of the van was trapped and had to be extricated by firefighters.
They were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by a LifeNet helicopter with serious, life-threatening injuries, Lyons said.
The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist in the crash investigation.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Johnsburg Police Department assisted at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lakemoor Police Department and MCAT.
