A woman died and a passenger was injured when an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed rolled over multiple times and crashed into parked cars in Waukegan Sunday afternoon.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 2:15 p.m. Sunday to Classic Kia, 425 North Green Bay Road, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said a white 2002 Ford Explorer had been traveling northbound on Green Bay Road near Brookside Avenue.
A witness reported the occupants appeared to be arguing, according to a police report.
The Ford traveled into the southbound lanes of traffic before turning back into the northbound lanes of traffic.
The Ford rolled over multiple times, traveled off the roadway and came to a rest in the car dealership parking lot, Chastain said.
Four parked vehicles in the dealership’s parking lot were damaged.
The driver of the Ford, a 31-year-old Waukegan woman, was ejected from the SUV and reported to be unconscious and not breathing.
Paramedics performed CPR on the woman and she was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
She was pronounced dead in the emergency room upon her arrival at the hospital, Chastain said.
A 50-year-old passenger in the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Green Bay Road was shut down for several hours while officers investigated the crash.
Officers found 8.8 grams of a substance that tested positive for heroin in the vehicle, Chastain said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the victim yet.
