A driver was arrested after two passengers, one of which suffered a serious injury, were ejected from the bed of a pickup truck that crashed into a tree and a house near Gurnee.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 12:20 a.m. Saturday to the 17500 block of West Mill Creek Crossing Drive in unincorporated Gurnee.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a Ford pickup truck that struck a tree and then collided into a home.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that two passengers were ejected from the bed of the pickup truck.

The driver, Gabriel G. Sage, 20, of Libertyville, fled in the damaged truck, Covelli said.

One of the passengers sustained significant facial injuries and the other sustained minor injuries.

Deputies located Sage and the pickup truck approximately a half-mile from the scene, Covelli said.

He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to give aid following an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

Covelli said it is possible the charges will be enhanced due to the injuries sustained by the passengers.

Sage was transported to an area hospital following the crash.

He is not yet in the custody of the Lake County Jail.
