Prosecutors say a 35-year-old woman driving erratically while under the influence caused a crash that left a victim with multiple injuries in Grayslake.
Kateryna Rybakova, 35, of Grayslake, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence involving a crash, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed and improper traffic lane usage.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis said the Grayslake Police Department responded on May 26 to multiple 911 calls for a vehicle driving erratically.
Officers responding to the calls located a vehicle crash at Route 83 and Washington Street.
Witnesses reported Rybakova was the driver of one of the vehicles and had tried to leave the scene but her car was disabled.
Officers noted an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Rybakova, Lewis said.
The woman performed field sobriety testing and showed signs of impairment.
She provided a breath sample that showed a 0.17 blood alcohol content, which is over twice the legal limit.
Rybakova admitted to drinking two shots of vodka and said she had too much to drink, Lewis said.
Paramedics treated Rybakova and a victim in the other vehicle for injuries.
The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after suffering “great bodily harm,” Lewis said.
Lewis said the victim suffered multiple broken bones, including a broken arm.
Lake County Judge Stephen DeRue ordered Rybakova held on a $25,000 bond.
Rybakova was released from the Lake County Jail after posting 10% of her bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.
