A third-generation Lake Zurich police officer following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who both served as Lake Zurich officers, was sworn in this week.

The Lake Zurich Police Department said they recently welcomed Officer Trace Parlberg.

Parlberg was sworn in at a public ceremony during a Village of Lake Zurich Board of Trustees meeting on Monday.

Parlberg recently graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) at the College of DuPage.

He received the academic achievement award for having the highest test average, a 97%, among the 79 recruits in his academy class, the department said.

Parlberg is currently participating in an in-house field training program. He is considered a third-generation officer.

Traceโ€™s father, Mike, was a Lake Zurich police officer for 28 years and retired as a sergeant in 2017.

Traceโ€™s grandfather, Wayne Parlberg, was a Lake Zurich police officer for 28 years and served as police chief from 1991 to 1992. Wayne died in 2004.

Lake Zurich Police Chief Steve Husak said that multiple generations of police officers are not unheard of in big cities but “itโ€™s not so common in smaller villages.”

“We are excited to keep the Parlberg name associated with the Lake Zurich Police Department,” Husak said.
