A juvenile has been charged with murder and a second suspect is being sought after an 18-year-old man was fatally shot outside an apartment building in Waukegan.

An autopsy performed Friday on Kyron Goode, 18, of Waukegan, showed he died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 2:33 p.m. Thursday to the 500 block of South Genesee Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and located Goode, who was reported to have been shot in the face and chest, at the Barwell Manor Apartments.

The 18-year-old man had been outside when the shooting occurred, according to a police report.

Officers found Goode inside an apartment when they arrived.

Investigators located several leads and identified two suspects during their investigation, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.

A suspect vehicle was also identified. It was later spotted traveling northbound through Zion toward Wisconsin.

The Zion Police Department and the Kenosha, Wisconsin Police Department assisted in arresting a 17-year-old Waukegan boy for outstanding warrants in Kenosha, Chastain said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office issued an extradition warrant for the juvenile and he was charged with first-degree murder. It is unclear yet whether he is being charged as an adult.
