Carnell L. Lattimore, 40, of Fox Lake.

A Fox Lake man, who is a convicted felon, was sentenced to over six years in prison for selling cocaine near a middle school in McHenry while in possession of a gun.

Carnell L. Lattimore, 40, of Fox Lake, was charged in March 2020 with two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 500 feet of a school, two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said at the time of Lattimore’s arrest that a joint narcotics task force received a tip regarding him.

A three-week investigation was conducted by detectives, sheriff’s officials said.

Court documents said that Lattimore delivered between 1-15 grams of cocaine within 500 feet of Parkland Middle School, located at 1802 North Ringwood Road in McHenry.

Court documents said that it occurred on at least two different days in February and March during school hours while children were present.

In addition to the cocaine, police also recovered a Kel-Tec .380 pistol, 9mm ammo and a digital scale that contained white powder residue in Lattimore’s possession.

Lattimore’s bond was originally set at $150,000 but was later reduced and he was released from custody.

Court records show Lattimore entered into a negotiated plea deal last week and pleaded guilty to one count of manufacturing or delivering cocaine in a school zone, a Class X felony.

Prosecutors dismissed the rest of his charges as part of the plea.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea and sentenced Lattimore to six years and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Lattimore had previously been convicted in 2007 in Lake County on drug charges near a school.
