Bystanders performed CPR on an unresponsive female and successfully revived her after she fell out of a boat into Lake Marie near Antioch Sunday afternoon.
The Antioch Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to the 41300 block of North Elime Road in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a person not breathing.
Antioch Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe DuShane said a female was standing in a pontoon boat when the boat hit a wave.
She fell out of the boat into the water and a man jumped in to try and save her but experienced muscle cramps, DuShane told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The man also suffered a head injury. Both victims were out of the water and were at a dock behind a residence by the time the fire department arrived.
Someone performed CPR on the female victim and paramedics found her semi-conscious, DuShane said.
The female victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
She had a pulse and was breathing on her own when paramedics transported her.
The male victim was transported to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Both victims are awake and alert at the hospital, DuShane said.
The incident is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
