Firefighters extricated a critically injured man who was trapped under an SUV after he crashed his motorcycle on Route 83 in Round Lake Beach Monday morning.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 10:52 a.m. Monday to Route 83 just north of Millstone Drive for a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Lt. Shane Page said fire crews arrived to find a motorcycle operator pinned underneath a car.
Firefighters extricated the victim from under the car and transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The man, a 36-year-old, was listed in critical condition at the hospital, according to Round Lake Beach Chief of Police Wayne Wilde Jr.
A female passenger on the motorcycle was also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center. She was listed in fair condition, Page said.
A preliminary investigation shows the 36-year-old man was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson.
Wilde said the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 83 when it struck the rear of a white 2022 Nissan.
The force of the collision caused the motorcycle to veer into the oncoming northbound lane where it struck a silver 2008 Acura SUV.
The driver of the Nissan and Acura have been cooperating with police throughout the investigation, Wilde said.
Page said the drivers of the two cars were treated at the scene and did not require transport to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County (MCAT).
Route 83 remains shut down as of Monday afternoon as Round Lake Beach police and MCAT continue to investigate.
