The coroner’s office has identified a 21-year-old man who died after he was shot in the head in front of a food store in Waukegan Sunday evening.

An autopsy performed Tuesday showed that Quinton Hudson, 21, of Waukegan, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7:16 p.m. Sunday to McAlister Avenue and May Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived on the scene first and found one victim who had been shot.

The victim, later identified as Hudson, was unconscious and not breathing. Officers reported the man had been shot in the head.

Officers began performing CPR on Hudson until paramedics arrived and took over care.

Paramedics transported the man to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Hudson had been on the sidewalk in front of Imperial Food Store at 703 South McAlister Avenue when he was shot.

A bicycle was seen laying on the ground surrounded by crime scene tape as officers investigated. A parked vehicle had a bullet hole in its front windshield.

The Waukegan Police Department remained on the scene for several hours investigating the homicide.

As of Tuesday, officials have still not said whether any suspects have been identified or were taken into custody.
