Three helicopters responded to transport multiple victims who suffered serious to critical injuries during a rollover crash that shut down Route 14 near Woodstock Friday afternoon.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:45 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Route 14 and Rose Farm Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within six minutes and found a two-vehicle crash at the intersection, according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the northwest corner ditch and one was on its roof.

Firefighters stabilized the rolled-over vehicle and began extricating the two occupants, an elderly man and a woman, who were trapped inside.

Vucha said a request was made through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) for a box alarm response to the scene.

Additional resources responded to the scene and covered Woodstock stations, which included fire crews from Marengo, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Wonder Lake, Spring Grove, Fox River Grove and Huntley.

The trapped victims were extricated from their vehicle within 25 minutes.

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene and landed on the roadway, Vucha said.

A third medical helicopter was called and landed at the Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital helipad.

A total of seven people occupied the two vehicles, Vucha said.

Three adults were airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious to critical condition.

A child was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries.

Vucha said an additional adult and two children were evaluated on the scene but refused transport to the hospital.

Both directions of Route 14 from Route 120 to Hartland Road were shut down.

Police reopened eastbound Route 14 just before 6 p.m.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
