Construction is nearing completion on Mercyhealth’s newest hospital in Crystal Lake, which is scheduled to open next month and will feature a 24-hour emergency room.
Construction began in June 2021 on Mercyhealth Hospital and Physician Clinic, located on Route 31 just south of Three Oaks Road in Crystal Lake.
The facility, initially estimated to cost $105 million, will have private inpatient and intensive care suites, surgery suites, emergency care and diagnostic services, as well primary and specialty care physician offices.
“This project has been a long, 25-year journey as we persisted in our efforts to bring emergency care and hospital services to the Crystal Lake community for the first time ever,” said Javon R. Bea, President and CEO of Mercyhealth, when construction broke ground.
“We have been privileged to provide high-quality physician and outpatient care to area residents for many years, and we are excited to take our services to the next level with this new multi-specialty clinic and hospital. Most importantly, we are excited to give Crystal Lake residents access to emergency services, which have been severely lacking in Crystal Lake for decades,” Bea said.
The emergency department will be staffed 24/7 with board-certified emergency physicians that will be capable of treating a full range of conditions from chest pain and heart issues to head injuries, broken bones, abdominal pain, lacerations, trouble breathing and more.
Mercyhealth said the new facility will provide patients with an integrated, coordinated and convenient healthcare experience, especially for elderly patients who have to travel to different locations to see various physicians.
The company said in 2021 they expected there would be 134 permanent healthcare jobs, including physician providers, nursing, dietary, housekeeping and professional support services.
An open house is scheduled for July 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The hospital is scheduled to open on July 24.
A medical helicopter and emergency response vehicles will be on site for the tour, which is open to the public and will feature a behind-the-scenes tour along with live music and prizes.
The hospital is still hiring staff members and a hiring event is scheduled for June 28 at Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake.
