Tyrone S. Harris, 52, of East Dubuque.

A man was sentenced to over five years in prison after taking a plea deal for an attack on a woman who he slashed with a knife and strangled in Wonder Lake.

Tyrone S. Harris, 52, of East Dubuque, was charged with four counts of aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, criminal damage to property and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2022, at a residence in the 8800 block of Hickory Lane in Wonder Lake.

A criminal complaint said that Harris strangled a woman in the residence.

Harris also allegedly used a knife to cut the victim’s left leg and both arms, the complaint said.

The woman sustained great bodily harm and permanent disfigurement from the injuries, the complaint said.

Harris grabbed the victim by her hair on the front steps of the residence and dragged her back inside to prevent her from leaving, the complaint said.

At some point during the attack, Harris used a foreign object to strike the woman and then began to kick her, the complaint said. She suffered fractured ribs after being struck.

Harris was also accused of throwing a vase into a grandfather clock and throwing a frying pan into a large mounted television, causing damage in excess of $500.

He prevented the victim from calling 911 by taking her cell phone and leaving the residence, the complaint said.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office arrested Harris after a warrant was issued and transported him to the McHenry County Jail.

Court records show Harris recently entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
