Sheriff’s officials say a rollover crash that left four people, including a child, seriously injured was caused by a driver who failed to yield on Route 14 near Woodstock Friday.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:45 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Route 14 and Rose Farm Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within six minutes and found a two-vehicle crash at the intersection, according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the northwest corner ditch and one was on its roof.

A preliminary investigation showed a 2015 Toyota Rav4 was traveling northbound on Rose Farm Road and had a stop sign, the sheriff’s office said.

A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Route 14 and did not have a stop sign.

For unknown reasons, the Toyota failed to yield and collided with the Chevrolet, the sheriff’s office said.

The Toyota rolled over and both vehicles ended up in the northwest ditch.

A total of seven people occupied the two vehicles, Vucha said.

Firefighters stabilized the Toyota and began extricating the two occupants, who were trapped inside.

Vucha said a request was made through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) for a box alarm response to the scene.

Additional resources responded to the scene and covered Woodstock stations, which included fire crews from Marengo, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Wonder Lake, Spring Grove, Fox River Grove and Huntley.

The driver of the Toyota, a 72-year-old Woodstock woman, and the passenger, a 74-year-old man, were extricated from the Toyota within 25 minutes.

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene and landed on the roadway, Vucha said.

The two occupants of the Toyota were flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The 74-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and the 72-year-old suffered serious injuries.

Two passengers of the Chevrolet, a 4-year-old child and a 25-year-old Harvard woman, suffered serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry and later flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old Harvard man, along with two other children were evaluated at the scene for injuries but were not transported to the hospital.

Both directions of Route 14 from Route 120 to Hartland Road were shut down for several hours.
