A woman arrested for driving under the influence was driving with four children, two of which were improperly restrained, in Spring Grove, court records allege.

Salena M. Carranza, 33, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, four counts of child endangerment and numerous traffic violations.

Court documents said Carranza was stopped by the Spring Grove Police Department around 9 p.m. on June 4.

The traffic stop occurred near Route 173 and Wilmot Road.

Carranza’s vehicle did not have a registration light and also had improper headlight or tail light lighting, court records show.

Officers also noticed Carranza commit improper lane usage by crossing the lane boundary unsafely, a complaint said.

Officers arrested Carranza for driving under the influence.

A sworn report said she had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her and watery and bloodshot eyes.

Carranza refused field sobriety testing and also refused to provide a breath sample, according to the report.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said there were four children in the car at the time of the stop.

Two of the children were five years old, one was nine years old and the other was 12 years old.

Two of the children were improperly restrained in the car, court records show.

Carranza was released from custody on bond after her arrest.

She is scheduled to appear in court on July 10 for a plea hearing.
