Several roads near Wauconda will be shut down for over three months starting next week so crews can realign intersections and construct a roundabout.
The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) said they will be closing Darrell Road, Neville Road and Case Road in Wauconda Township to through traffic.
Case Road and Neville Road will both be shut down completely and Darrell Road will be closed from Bonner Road to Dowell Road.
The road closures will last for 110 days and go into effect starting at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
The closure is required to construct a roundabout and realign the intersections of Darrell Road, Neville Road and Case Road.
“Roundabouts provide safer and more efficient traffic flow in many locations because traffic moves slower and in only one direction,” LCDOT said.
“That means there are fewer crashes, the crashes are less severe, and traffic flows smoothly,” the department of transportation added.
This will be the first of three roundabouts to be constructed as part of the Darrell Road Corridor Improvement.
The other two roundabouts are scheduled for construction in 2024 pending project readiness.
The detour route will be Dowell Road to Darrell Road to Route 120 to Route 12 to Bonner Road.
Local traffic will be allowed on Darrell Road south from Dowell Road and on Darrell Road north from Bonner Road.
Local traffic will be allowed on Case Road west from Route 12. Local traffic will be allowed on Neville Road east from Dowell Road.
The Darrell Road Corridor Improvement project has been in the planning stages since 2015.
