An unfounded report of a person with a gun during a dispute inside Gurnee Mills mall in Gurnee prompted a heavy police response Thursday morning.

The Gurnee Police Department responded around 11 a.m. Thursday to Rainforest Cafe, 6170 West Grand Avenue in Gurnee, for a report of a domestic dispute.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that initial reports stated there was a gun displayed.

Those reports later turned out to be unfounded.

Officers learned during their investigation that a verbal argument occurred, Gaylor said.

One of the subjects involved made a threatening statement saying that he would shoot the other person if they touched him.

No one wanted to press charges for the threatening statement, Gaylor said.

No weapons were located and both parties went separate ways without further issue.
