Authorities say Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Dax tracked down and located three children who went missing for several hours from Round Lake Park Sunday.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that Dax had a busy holiday weekend.
Dax and his handler Deputy John Forlenza were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to search for multiple juveniles who went missing.
The juveniles had been missing for several hours, the sheriff’s office said.
Dax responded to the area of Hainesville Drive and Lake Avenue in Round Lake Beach to being the search.
Dax tracked from the intersection, which is where the three were last seen.
The track went for just under a mile and the canine located the juveniles hiding next to a pier leading into Round Lake.
“Good boy, Dax!” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
The three were wet and cold but otherwise uninjured. Police returned the juveniles to their guardians.
