Officers arrested a man who allegedly dropped a ghost gun onto the ground and tried running away while attending the Community Days festival in Mundelein, prosecutors said.
Brandon Rojas, 19, of Mundelein, was charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Daly said a woman approached officers at Mundelein Community Days on Monday.
The woman reported that her daughter had seen someone with a gun.
Officers were given a description of the offender, who was believed to be near the pedestrian bridge, Daly said.
The offender had dropped the gun but picked it up and put it in his backpack before running away.
Officers later located the offender near the bridge, Daly said. Additional witnesses also reported seeing the offender drop the gun.
Rojas was arrested and had the backpack with him.
He consented to a search and officers found a black ghost gun with a loaded magazine inserted, Daly said.
Rojas does not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed carry license and is also under the age of 21.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Rojas held on a $500,000 bond and to be on a 24-hour curfew if he makes bond.
Rojas remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $50,000 cash in order to be released.
A status of attorney hearing is scheduled for July 14.
