Left to Right: David S. Kaminski, 41, of Antioch; Jessica C. Garlock, 27, of Spring Grove; and Elizabeth M. Tiskevich, 32, of Woodstock.

All three suspects who were charged months ago with stealing checks belonging to an elderly man near Antioch and then altering and cashing them are now in custody.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded on April 2, 2022, to a residence in the 38200 block of North Bolton Place in unincorporated Antioch for a report of a theft.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the victim, a 91-year-old man, reported he began receiving late notices on bills he paid.

The man put several envelopes containing checks in his mailbox as outgoing mail.

Those checks were determined to have been fraudulently altered and cashed, Covelli said.

Sheriff’s detectives initiated an investigation that consisted of obtaining banking documents, video surveillance and interviews.

Detectives determined that three suspects worked together to drive around various neighborhoods and steal checks from the mail.

The suspects then altered those checks to make them payable to themselves and stole thousands of dollars, Covelli said.

David S. Kaminski, 41, of Antioch; Jessica C. Garlock, 27, of Spring Grove; and Elizabeth M. Tiskevich, 32, of Woodstock, were charged with three counts of felony forgery.

An arrest warrant was issued for Tiskevich in December and the other two were issued in April.

Tiskevich was arrested on April 5 and transported to the Lake County Jail.

Kaminski has been in the custody of the McHenry County Jail since March 31 on unrelated charges of escape, resisting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Kaminski escaped from police custody by running out of Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.

Deputies chased him across the street into a field and took him back into custody.
