Park district officials are asking for the public’s help in locating a vandal who lit a lost and found box on fire and put a firecracker inside a library box in Lake Barrington.

The Lake Barrington Countryside Park District said the incident occurred on the Fourth of July at the district’s park off Old Barrington Road.

Lake Barrington Countryside Park District Commissioner Kira Panno said someone lit their lost and found box on fire.

The fire caused the boards behind it to catch on fire as well.

“There is debris all over in that area, so please be careful,” Panno said in a statement.

The vandal or vandals also put a firecracker in the park district’s library box.

The library box will be closed until the park district can get a replacement.

“Thank you for your patience while we work on getting this cleaned up,” Panno said.

Signage around the park district property says that the property is under surveillance but it is unclear if any surveillance video showed the incident.

Anyone who has information on the suspect or suspects should contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or Lake Barrington Countryside Park District.
