Three children were injured, including one that was seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital, after a UTV rolled over into a ditch near Woodstock Saturday evening.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:54 p.m. Saturday to the 2800 block of Raycraft Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with entrapment.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said fire crews arrived to find a damaged Bobcat utility vehicle (UTV) that was in a ditch.
The vehicle had originally rolled over onto its side and left a juvenile trapped underneath.
The vehicle had been lifted off the victim and uprighted by bystanders to free the injured juvenile, Vucha said.
The UTV was occupied by five juveniles at the time of the crash.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested and landed at the scene.
One of the victims, a female juvenile, was flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries, Vucha said.
Two juveniles were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with minor injuries.
Two additional juveniles were evaluated on the scene by paramedics but were not transported to the hospital.
The roadway was closed in both directions for over an hour, Vucha said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
