Police and fire investigators are investigating a possible arson fire that damaged a law office building in Waukegan early Thursday morning.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 5:49 a.m. Thursday to the 200 block of North West Street for a structure fire call.
Officers arrived on the scene first and found the building’s porch on fire.
Officers used one of their fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire, according to a police report.
Officers forced their way into the building and searched for anyone still inside. No one was found inside.
Firefighters arrived and reported smoke coming from the structure.
The incident was upgraded and additional firefighters were called to the scene. No injuries were reported.
The fire appeared to have begun underneath the porch, the report said, which listed it as being investigated as arson.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department.
