A bystander rescued an unresponsive boy who nearly drowned in a pool and successfully revived him at an apartment complex in Buffalo Grove, authorities said.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department and Buffalo Grove Police Department responded around 6:15 p.m. Saturday to the 1200 block of Johnson Drive.
911 callers reported a possible drowning involving a child, who had since been pulled from a pool.
Village of Buffalo Grove Director of Communications Molly Gillespie told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the child, a 9-year-old boy, was confirmed to be out of the water when paramedics arrived.
The child was unconscious and not breathing when he was rescued from the pool.
A bystander had already begun performing CPR on the boy at the direction of 911 dispatchers before paramedics arrived.
Paramedics arrived to find the boy was alert and breathing, Gillespie said. The boy remained alert during transport to a local hospital.
The child’s exact condition was not known but he was stabilized.
Gillespie said it is not known what led to the 9-year-old nearly drowning in the pool.
