Police have identified and arrested a driver accused of fatally striking a man with her vehicle and fleeing the scene, leaving the man to die, near Fox Lake in May.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded around 2:08 a.m. on May 29 to Wilmot Road and Paddock Road in unincorporated Fox Lake for a vehicle crash.
First responders found a male subject, identified as Edgar Torres-Flores, 39, of North Chicago, who was unconscious and not breathing down on the roadway.
A preliminary investigation showed Torres-Flores was driving on Wilmot Road when he got stuck in a ditch, the sheriff’s office said.
The man got out of his vehicle near the roadway as a white vehicle, possibly a Kia, was traveling southbound on Wilmot Road.
The vehicle struck Torres-Flores just north of Paddock Road and fled the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Torres-Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy showed he died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein.
The sheriff’s office last month released a photo of the possible suspect vehicle.
They said the suspect’s car was believed to be a white Kia Forte with damage on the front end.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office announced their Major Crash Investigation Unit had completed a thorough investigation and identified the driver as Brittany A. Marble, 27, of Spring Grove.
Marble was charged with failure to report a fatal crash, failure to remain at the scene of a fatal crash, failure to remain at the scene of a property damage crash, failure to give information and render aid and improper possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle.
Marble was taken into custody at the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday.
