A woman died after she suffered critical injuries in a high-speed crash involving three vehicles at a busy intersection in Fox River Grove, the police chief said.
The Fox River Grove Police Department and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District responded around 4:42 p.m. Wednesday to Route 14 and Route 22 for a report of a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries.
Fox River Grove Chief of Police Eric Waitrovich told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the crash involved three vehicles.
An investigation showed a BMW 3 Series and a Toyota Camry were stopped on Route 14 at the traffic light.
The two vehicles were waiting to turn left onto Route 22.
A Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed rear-ended the BMW, which was pushed into the Toyota, Waitrovich said.
The female driver of the Honda, who was the sole occupant of her car, was unconscious and not breathing.
Other motorists stopped and provided medical aid to the woman before first responders arrived, Waitrovich said.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was placed on standby but later canceled.
Paramedics transported the female driver to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington where she was pronounced dead.
Waitrovich said there was no indication the woman suffered a medical emergency and the high rate of speed is a contributing cause.
The occupants of the other two vehicles involved were evaluated by paramedics but declined transport to the hospital, Waitrovich added.
The Cary Police Department assisted the Fox River Grove Police Department with traffic control until the crash was cleared.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the female victim’s identity yet.
