A woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while reportedly on her morning walk near Deerfield Square shopping center in Deerfield Sunday morning.

The Deerfield Police Department and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 7:19 a.m. Sunday to the area of Robert York Avenue and Osterman Avenue for a crash with injuries.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, police officials said.

Officers reported the victim had a serious head injury and was near Il-Forno Pizza and Pasta, 750 Osterman Avenue.

The fire department arrived to find the female victim face down on the ground.

The victim was pronounced dead and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified, police officials said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was also notified and responded to the scene for the investigation.

WGN reported they spoke with the husband of the victim, who was grief-stricken.

The husband said his wife was on her morning walk when she was struck by the vehicle.

The coroner’s office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy and has not released the victim’s identity yet.

Police have not provided further details on what may have led to the crash or who was at fault.
