Biljana Petrovic, 38, of Harwood Heights.

A woman was arrested for drunk driving after a police officer was hit by a car in Lake Villa and had to be transported to the hospital Sunday, officials said.

Biljana Petrovic, 38, of Harwood Heights, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emma Smoler said the Lake Villa Police Department responded Sunday to a call of a child on the side of the road.

An officer was returning to his squad car, which was parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

A vehicle being driven by Petrovic was traveling on the road and swerved toward the officer, Smoler said.

The officer was struck in his elbow area by the car’s passenger side mirror.

Other officers stopped Petrovic’s vehicle and had her perform field sobriety testing.

Smoler said Petrovic performed poorly on those tests and admitted to consuming multiple drinks at a bar prior to driving.

Petrovic also said she was sorry for hitting the officer with her car, Smoler said.

The officer was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

An attorney for Petrovic said his client lives with her two children and has no prior criminal background.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Petrovic held on a $250,000 bond.

Petrovic remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $25,000 cash in order to be released.

She is scheduled to appear in court again on August 7.
