An active search Thursday resulted in a fire chief locating a missing endangered elderly woman in a wooded area in Spring Grove, officials said.

The Illinois State Police activated an Endangered Missing Person Advisory Thursday afternoon for a 70-year-old woman.

The Spring Grove Police Department reported the woman was last seen around 5:50 a.m. Thursday at a residence in the 10700 block of Red Hawk Lane in Spring Grove.

The woman has a condition that places her in danger, authorities said.

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District and the Spring Grove Police Department began searching for her.

The departments later requested the assistance of the K9/Drone Search and Rescue Strike Team to assist in the search.

Canine Thor and his handler responded within 20 minutes after the request.

The Spring Grove fire chief located the woman in a wooded area as the canine team arrived.

Fire crews worked to remove the woman from the wooded area and provided her care.

“Fortunately, the female was located and received care. The outcome of this could have been much different and we are grateful to have this team available to McHenry County departments at a moment’s notice. Thank you to Spring Grove Public Works for assisting as well,” the fire district said.

“This is another great example of the working relationship that we have with local police and fire departments for the greater good of people in need,” the K9/Drone Search and Rescue Strike Team said.
