A 41-year-old man died and two others were injured after the man was ejected from his motorcycle following a three-vehicle crash on Route 47 near Huntley, authorities said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 9:30 a.m. Saturday to Route 47 and Conley Road in unincorporated Huntley.
The sheriff’s office said the crash involved two cars and a motorcycle at the intersection.
The Lakewood Police Department, Huntley Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department also responded to assist.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Mini Cooper S, driven by a 17-year-old, was stopped southbound on Route 47.
The Mini Cooper was waiting to turn eastbound onto Conley Road.
A 2015 Subaru Forester, driven by a 71-year-old Woodstock man, was also traveling southbound but failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the Mini Cooper.
The impact resulted in the Mini Cooper spinning into a 1997 Kawasaki VN800, which was traveling northbound on Route 47.
The rider of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old Elgin man, was thrown from his motorcycle.
The drivers of both cars and the rider of the motorcycle were all transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested and landed to meet the ambulance at the hospital.
The motorcycle rider was too critically injured and the helicopter was canceled. The man was transported into the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The drivers of the two cars sustained minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
