A McHenry woman has been indicted by a grand jury after court documents allege that she violently shook, slapped and pinched a young child family member in McHenry.
Kelly M. Cooper, 37, of McHenry, was initially charged in May with domestic battery causing bodily harm and domestic battery physical contact.
A grand jury reviewed the case and additionally charged Cooper in July with aggravated battery of a child causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Cooper caused bodily harm to a 9-year-old girl by grabbing her torso and violently shaking her on May 24.
Cooper also slapped the child, who is a family member, in the face, causing redness and swelling, the complaint said.
The woman pinched the child on both arms, resulting in bruising and redness, the complaint said.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt ordered Cooper held on a $2,000 bond following her arrest. She was released from custody after posting 10% of the bond.
After a grand jury indicted Cooper last month on the felony charge, a judge issued a warrant with a $50,000 bond.
Cooper was taken into custody and her bond was reduced to $20,000, which she posted 10% of and was released from the McHenry County Jail.
The woman has pleaded not guilty to her charges. A status hearing is scheduled for September 5.
